Stacy here!  I want to make sure that you were all aware that the American Cancer Society/Relay For Life of Westfield will be next weekend, May 18-19th from 5:30PM to 11:45AM.  It is held at the Westfield High School Track, located at 345 W. Hoover St. 

There are many different reasons why people participate in this event… celebrating a survivor, remembering those lost, or fighting back against this terrible disease.  It is a way to find healing, comfort and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease.  You have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime. 

How it works:  Teams of people camp out at a Westfield High School and take turns walking or running around the track.  Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.  Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours long. 

With every step you take, you help the American Cancer Society save lives.   With your help, we aren’t just fighting one type of cancer – we’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.

My participation will be in memory of my grandma, Reta Demaree (10/25/05) and grandpa, Virgil Demaree (7/25/07). Cancer snuck in and took both of their lives far too early.  They are thought of often and not a day goes by that they are not missed.

The time has finally come!!!!

The Ashley Place pool and hot tub will be officially open Friday, May 11th!  Please remember to bring your resident access key card for entry.  As always, be mindful of the pool rules and help us keep the pool clean and fun for everyone!

While spending days poolside with the family are fun, they can also be dangerous.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates, and fatal drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injuring relating death for children ages 1 to 14 years.  It’s no wonder why parents place such a strong emphasis on pool safety.  The following are some preventative measures parents can take to reduce their child’s risk of an accident in the pool.

1. Ensure Children Know How To Swim

As we head outdoors to enjoy the warm spring weather, now is the best time to review ways to protect your skin from sun damage.

It’s important to wear a suncreen with a sun protection factor of 30 or more when exposed to the sun for an extendended period of time.  Remember it is always best to reapply sunscreen every two hours or sooner if you begin developing a sunburn.  You should do everything you can to prevent burning.  Sunburn causes DNA damage to skin cells, which can lead to cancer, as well as wrinkles and other damaging affects.

Even if you are only exposed to the sun for a limited time, you should use a daily sunscreen.  Everyone is exposed to harmful UV rays while driving a car, sitting by a window or walking from the car to their destination.  UV rays are very damaging to your skin, this is especially true for tanning beds.  With proms and other seasonal events right around the corner, everyone should be discouraged from using tanning beds which have been proven to cause skin cancer.

Dear Resident,

In an effort to simplify our residents’ payment procedures, we will be changing our billing methods to consolidate both the rent and utilities into one invoice, which will be reflected on your monthly NWP invoice.  Effective immediately, payment for all charges shown on your monthly NWP invoice (including any past due balances) should be made directly to the management office on-site at the Ashley Place Leasing Office. Please do not send your future payments to NWP.

In addition to this procedural change, you will also see the following modifications beginning in May:

* Other monthly charges have been added to your NWP bill, including rent and all rent related charges such as pet, garage or carport rent

*  All charges on one statement means you have the convenience of paying once with one check

*  Saves money on postage and precious time by delivering your check in person at the office.

Your May statement will include your utilities along with your rent charges for June 1, 2012, and your Service Fee will be $3.50.

All outstanding utility charges from previous billing periods will be transferred to the management office on-site at your apartment community and will be reflected in the balance forward column on your next bill from NWP. Note that any payment you make that is received by NWP after May 10^th may not be credited in your balance forward.

Again, NWP will no longer accept payments for processing.  Please remit your payments directly to the Ashley Place office.  Any payments received by NWP will be forwarded to your property management office, which may delay the posting of the payment to your account. If you have any questions, please feel free to call NWP at 888-679-6455 or contact your leasing office at 896-1930.
